Killed, survived, taught, sifted, etc...

what do missionary wives do with their days?
well recently...very recently
I've stepped on a frog in my hallway,
killed an {agressive} 9 inch 40-legger with a machete, (this machete)
finished a whole pot of coffee alone...in one morning,
survived the vicious Chikungunya virus,
gone 5 days without full running water,
taught 3 school grades while folding laundry,
carried water to wash clothes,
received a pedicure from a 3 year old,
helped our German Shepherd deliver 13 beautiful puppies,
sifted bugs out of my flour,
carefully moved all the lizard eggs out of my sewing machine box,
and more
(things that are more normal to me now so I can't even remember them).
While all my friends back home are posting pictures of fall leaves and even snow....
Jamaican kids are playing in the water hose and eating watermelon.
The kids love watermelon.
They love it so much that all that is left
is a thin shaving of the green peeling.

  3. I'm guessing that the 9 inch 40-legger was something like a giant centipede... makes shivers run up and down my spine. Brave you! :) Your mosquito delivered virus sounds horrible. I'm sure being "mama", teacher, wife, and what ever other hats you have to wear on a daily basis were really hard when you were feeling so sick. Hope you are feeling better now.
I love your pedicure! :) I might have to let my small people have a go at it one day - I'm sure they'd find it fun.
Maria, thank you once again for showing by example, that the things we "westerners" complain about, really aren't hardships at all. Great reality check.
    Enjoy your watermellon!!! :)

  6. 13 puppies????? Wow!
Isn't it funny how things that seem random or weird at first in a new country start to seem so normal that you don't even think to mention them anymore? I try to write down first impressions as soon as I can in a new place, before they seem so commonplace that I lose those memories or don't think to write home about them. Hope you guys are doing well!

My Mom always says, "If you can't say something nice, don't say nothing at all."

You're sugary, sweet comments mean so much to me!
