Thou, Sluggard!

We had a lot of fun in Sunday School today.
We just ended a 5 week study on Daniel from the time he was captured as a young man until the exciting story in the deep, dark, scary Lion's Den!

I've been letting the kids tell me the WHOLE story after we do a particularly detailed study about a Bible character.  Each week I review from the week before and add the next "chapter".   After about 5 weeks, it's their turn to teach teacher.  They love it!  I add lots of little interesting facts and details in my stories and I'm always amazed that they remember and put them in too!
This week I printed out the verse
Proverbs 6:6 "Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise:"

After we sang our songs, I led the kids in a long line of Follow the Leader.  We walked all around the yard following teacher's goofy antics.  I led them to their chairs and I asked, "What creature follows each other around in a long line?"

They instantly knew the ants.....and they should, we all have about a million in our homes!

Some quick points I brought out that we can learn from the ant during the lesson:
1. The ants are BUSY not laying around sleeping.  Have you ever seen a sleeping ant?
2. Do you see the ants sitting around bossing the others?  Even the queen is busy laying eggs.  (ewww)
3. In the ant colony everyone has jobs and responsibilities.
4. Will you be wise like the little ant and be a hard worker?
We made thumbprint ants on a slip of paper with our new memory verse on it.

Between Sunday School and the Morning Service I played "Farmer and the Dell" with them.  I taught them how to play a few months ago....even my teenagers have fun with it.  They all love teasing the "cheese who stands alone!"
Considering the ant,

I miss teaching Sunday school! I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble linking. When you first enter linky tools from my blog and at the top where the first thing they ask for is the link back to my blog, delete the first "http://". Please let me know if this helps. Blessings, Mary :O)

What a wonderful way to teach a lesson. I loved your pictures, and I couldn't help but think of the great impact you are having by impressing God's word on those little minds. When they are older, they will still remember them and the principles they teach. What a wonderful tool to implant in their hearts to guard against sin.
Love you, my friend.
