Bite the Bullet

I've been a little MIA lately. I'm battling a horrible tooth ache. I have been blessed with bad teeth. Even though I floss, brush regular, use fluoride...and don't drink soda. I'm living proof that life is not fair! (grimace) I've been really nervous because I always get cavities when I'm pregnant. My teeth have been really sensitive for a few weeks, but I ALWAYS put off telling Josh about it. I try to be brave and tough and I HATE dentists and dentist bills.

Monday, I decide to bite the bullet and tell my husband. Or maybe I should say stop "biting the bullet". I told him that I was going to have to see a dentist because the top left of my mouth has been sensitive on and off lately. We called a dentist office that we had seen. They wanted $80 for the exam and $150 for a filling! Josh said that if I had 2 cavities, it would be better to send me back to the States (where our insurance covers) and get everything done properly. So, I spent a couple hours...worrying... "I can't just pick up and leave, my kids and husband for...who knows how long!" Stupid teeth!

We went ahead and made an appointement with the Golden Dentist, but Josh called one of his friends to see if he knew of any "nice" dentists around. Josh's friend told us of one in Mo Bay. Prince Charming told me that he'd go check it out and see if it was an option. Silly unsuspecting me said, "I think the girls and I will ride a long to enjoy the a/c in the van."

We drove to a very populated bustling section of town and had to park the van. We got out to walk the many blocks to the doctor's office. It was sprinkling rain, so the very narrow dirty, sidewalks were lined with many interesting characters. It took us awhile to find the right building. The blocks of business are all attached together and seem to run on forever. We finally came to the right building surrounded by run down businesses. The sign said "use side door". Hum. Josh pushed open the door to find a couch with a couple woman sitting on it and a guard sitting at the door. He pointed to a staircase and said "it's up there." I took a deep breath and dragged Alexis along behind me with Eden resting on my hip. Upstairs, we found a friendly receptionist behind a professional looking desk. Josh asked them how much it was for fillings and she said $40 US. Pretty good...compared to the last place. He then asked how soon they could get me in. She said, "how about today? We can get you in, in about 5 minutes." Talk about service! My supportive husband turned to me with a "ha ha" look on his face and asked, "is that ok?" The terrified/nervous/sick to stomach/nauseous feeling hit me all at once! Have I mentioned how much I hate dentists?

Blinded by pain...I nodded yes.

The dentist was a very pretty young lady, and I was impressed with her. It turns out that I had a cracked filling and that was causing me some pain. She put in a temporary filling until they can do an xray and make sure the tooth is ok. I scheduled an appointment to go back in 3 weeks, by then I'll be in my 2nd trimester and can get xrays.

But.....my pain has increased considerably. I have been in constant pain since last night. I believe I have a wisdom tooth coming in on top but there is no room for it and it is pushing on the other teeth. But it is so very painful. Please pray. I hurt so bad all I want to do is cry. I've tried 2 different pain medicines and orajel and they don't make any change. The only thing that makes it half way tolerable is if I keep cold water in my mouth on that side. So I've been drinking sooo much water today. I feel like a balloon. The doctor went to another office today, but we are going to go see her tomorrow. I covet your prayers,

Don't know if you can easily find whole cloves, but that sometimes helps me. I've heard that garlic cloves help too but haven't gotten up the nerve to try that yet. Praying for you.

I've heard of putting a wet tea bag inside of your cheek. Haven't tried it myself, but I figure you're pretty desperate by now.
I hope you get some relief soon.

Ah, Maria!! Teeth pain is just awful! Its one of the hardest things to just "put out of your mind". I was also going to suggest a whole clove. I'll pray for you.
