Washable Finger Paint Recipe

For Princess Moriah’s 6th Birthday, last week, we made a batch of homemade washable finger paint. It was so much fun and turned out great! We didn’t have running water, so I decided to let them express their creativity outside. I used an old bed skirt as our canvas. I hung it on the clothes line, and let them get messy.

Poor Drago. Someone....who shall remain nameless....painted him. It washed off very easy though!

The sheet washed “good as new” in the machine!

Washable Finger Paint Recipe

2 Tablespoons Sugar
1/3 cup cornstarch
2 cups Water
Combine these in a large saucepan and bring to a boil over medium heat. Stirring constantly until mixture thickens into a smooth gel. Remove from heat.

Stir in 1/4 cup of liquid dishwashing soap

I poured it into individual bowls and let the kids pick bright food colors to shade each one. Stir in colors while it is still warm.
Let cool before using. I think you can store it in a container with a lid, but we used it all up.

Please excuse the lack of clothes on the little ones, I wasn’t sure how well it would wash-out and I was weary about ruining clothes!

This is so cute. That little boy in the photo doesn't look like a Jamacian?!

The other “white” child is a missionary kid from the other side of the Island. They were staying the week with us. Birthdays are more fun when you have someone to share them with. :)

I thought so - just had to mention it. :-)

Years ago, before marriage....lots of years ago...I took a short term trip to Jamacia. I love your posts and sometimes it brings back special memories of that too.

Can't wait to try this! Will definitely help keep my girls and any of the neighborhood kids who are over at the time from getting bored.

Always enjoy your blog.
