slow down, Mrs. Missionary

As a missionary wife, on the field, we are tempted and sometimes pressured to participate in every ministry possible.  Working in the church has many, many opportunities for service.  Children's Sunday School and clubs, ladies meetings and Bible studies, choir, etc.  Each is wonderful and good, but let us not overlook our own personal ministry.
The little ones that God gave you are gathered around your legs now but sooner than you think they will be gone.  Off to their own adventures.  There will always be many ministry opportunities in the church, but you only have one family.

Deuteronomy 6:7 "And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou list down, and when thou risest up."

Don't be so busy and tired with helping others that you do not sit, laugh, joke, and play with your children.  The most important lessons of their life can be learned and should be learned at your knee.

lesson of the rusty needle

the girls are working on making these cute little felt thing-a-ma-bobbers.  They love making things themselves and feel so proud when they can wear them.

As Moriah was trying to push the needle through the multiple layers of felt she was getting frustrated and making {ugly} faces.

"Mine isn't working" "This is too hard"  "It doesn't look right" whine…whine…whine
Her younger sister was doing it fine and not complaining at all. After a while I had just about had enough of the rotten attitude.

Here is the lesson {more or less} that I solemnly told to her.  One of those life lessons that you just need to learn early.

Dear Little Princess,
You can sit and complain making yourself more miserable all day long.  No one around you really cares.  When a lady always complains and whines about her problems it doesn't make someone want to help you, it makes them want to avoid you.  True.
Now, I know your needle is a little rusty in spots.  You live on a tropical island where everything metal is rusty.  In life sometimes things aren't smooth and easy.  Sometimes you have to push a little harder and tug a little tighter to make things work.  Many times everyone else is dealing with their own set of problems.  Twist that frown into a smile.

take my picture?

"Stop! Me take you picture, mom!"
(Princess Brynlee Erin, 2)
I heard the words and turned to see these tanned little chubby fingers.  They were holding the toy camera.  My little ones love me and think I'm worthy of a picture even when I have an {extreme} messy bun, no make up, a sweaty house dress on, and my arms full of laundry.  How forgiving they are.

You know.....I wasn't ready to have my picture taken.  My outward appearance needed some attention. But how about my inward appearance.  My little ones are with me 24/7.  They see the good... the bad....the times I'd rather forget how I behaved myself.  How do I behave myself when those teensy little crisis happen in daily life?

Humm.  If someone were to take a picture of you right now would it be pretty?  Make sure the inside is pretty, too.

6 ways to pray for your Man

Many know that my Prince Charming had to return to Jamaica ahead of us to carry on the work in the church we started.  It's been hard managing 5 kids by myself and keeping my sanity.  I miss my man terribly but we talk often and send messages via our phones all the time.
{Between you and me} I treasure the sweet words and thoughts he sends that normally he wouldn't write down.  I now have proof he's just as romantic as me!  No, I'm not going to share his tender side right now.  Those are for my eyes alone.  {Deep sigh}  Yep, I'm pretty stuck on him.

God has placed specific people in your life for a purpose.  If you are blessed to be married you have an even greater responsibility to this person who is your other half.  {Told you I was feeling mushy!} One part of being the wife God wants me to be is by praying for my husband.  Sadly, this is one area that I feel I have failed miserably.  I'm so blessed to have a Godly husband you loves me deeply and completely.  I don't take it for granted.  Being apart makes me more aware of the dangers and temptations a man is subjected to in this wicked old world.

1. Pray for his daily walk with the Lord and for him to keep up his personal prayer time.

2. Pray for God's blessing on his life.

3. Pray for God's hand of safety and protection over him.

4. Pray for his vision and dreams.

5. Pray for his purity.

6. Pray for his testimony and witness.

Ok, Ladies, what would you add to the list?

He Leadeth Me

It never fails.  I love reading through a hymn book.  The old words wrote in those pages are timeless and always touch my soul.

when the crowd goes home

some may say... "She looks like a great Christian"
some may say... "She dresses like a great Christian"
some may say... "She talks like a great Christian"
but....
do they say, "I can see she walks with the Lord"?
Humm?

Often we get so comfortable in knowing how to perform and play the part of the perfectly dressed Church mouse.  When the light goes off, the crowd goes home, and you remove your makeup....what's left?   All that matters, in the end, is your personal relationship and walk with the Lord.  Not impressing the crowds.

Humm?

Making a difference

"And of some have compassion, making a difference:" Jude 1:22

The Legend of the Starfish
"A vacationing businessman was walking along a beach when he saw a young boy. Along the shore were many starfish that had been washed up by the tide and were sure to die before the tide returned. The boy was walked slowly along the shore and occasionally reached down and tossed the beached starfish back into the ocean.
The businessman, hoping to teach the boy a little lesson in common sense, walked up to the boy and said, “I have been watching what you are doing, son. You have a good heart, and I know you mean well, but do you realize how many beaches there are around here and how many starfish are dying on every beach every day. Surely such an industrious and kind hearted boy such as yourself could find something better to do with your time. Do you really think that what you are doing is going to make a difference?”
The boy looked up at the man, and then he looked down at a starfish by his feet. He picked up the starfish, and as he gently tossed it back into the ocean, he said, “It makes a difference to that one.”

How long has it  been since you felt compassion?
Real, heart-softening, chest tightening compassion.
Have you ever felt like that?
God shows you a need and you can't get it out of your brain.

God has us on earth for a purpose for a reason.
God has us exactly where we are for a purpose for a reason.
Believe it or not, there are things that you  {pointed finger} can do that no one else can.
I'm not talking about painting the Sistine Chapel or building the Brooklyn Bridge.
Little things are important.

Let's all purpose in our hearts to look for reasons to make a difference
in others lives in the next few days.

or
sitting on the veranda
that they're just not going to learn sitting in front of a tv.
