sings you a lullaby

My sweet Brynlee,
Just you and me.
You have an earache and on top of that your first tooth is peeking through.
You're such a joy to all of us.
Just you and me.
Each new thing you do.  Each new trick you learn.  We all stop and watch and praise you.

Understandably you're not your usual smiling happy self tonight.
Daddy took the other girls to Wednesday Night Bible Study and that left
just you and me.
It's rare for us to spend time ALL alone.
Time for me to focus ALL my attention on you.
You know what?  You're such a cute little rascal.

So, what does mommy do?
She looks at the dirty supper dishes, but choses to watch you splash in the bath bubbles.
She looks at the pile of laundry to fold, and makes it into a big nest for you and her to cuddle in.
She wades through the forgotten toys, left over from earlier adventures, replaces the cushions in our rocking chair and sings you a lullaby.
